As Sikkim experienced sunny weather, relief and rescue operations resumed in the North district after a day’s break owing due to inclement weather. Fifteen Army helicopters along with two Pawan Hans helicopters, hired by the State Government, have once again started their sorties to airdrop food packets as well as to rescue the injured from Lachen, Lachung, Chungthang and Dzongu areas. AIR correspondent reports, the Governor Mr. Balmiki Prasad Singh visited the Ringhim Monastery,Mangan Hospital and Mangan Control Room to take stock of the situation on Tuesday.While NDRF teams stationed at Lachung and Chungthang areas are carrying out rescue and relief operations, a team of 19 doctors, deployed by the Ministry of Health, continues to provide medical help in the hospitals at Chungthang,Mangan and Gangtok.Meanwhile, life is fast returning to normal in the State. With popular tourists spots like the high altitude Gurudongmar lake and the picturesque Yumthang valley in the North district still remaining out of bounds, tourism and hospitality industry in the State is fastening its belt to welcome the tourists in the ensuing tourists’ season beginning from the second of October next.According to the President of the Travel Agents’ Association of Sikkim Mr. Lukendra Rasaily, the BRO is working on a war footing and the Gangtok-Nathula Road is expected to be opened again for the tourists well in time.On the other hand, despite the recent earthquake throwing the State out of gear for a while, the placement season at the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) has started as usual.
