Relief operations underway in full swing in AP

In Andhra Pradesh, relief operations are underway in full swing in the rain-hit coastal districts. According to Navy, about two thousand persons who were stranded in flood water have been rescued by various teams.

About 70 thousand people are still taking shelter in 170 relief camps as their residential colonies are filled with flood waters. Over 1300 irrigation tanks were breached and over 7 thousand kilo meters-long highways damaged. Power supply was snapped to about 500 villages. Farmers suffer huge losses as standing crops and horticulture produce in about 6 lakh hectares damaged due to floods.

Meanwhile, the authorities are making all out efforts to restore power supply and road transport at several places. The South Central Railways has restored some of the cancelled trains as the damaged track between Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam has been re-built. Another track between Visakhapatnam and Bhubaneswar is under process of restoration.

Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy is visiting the worst hit districts Khammam, Krishna, East and West Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts today to review the relief works. North Coastal and Coastal districts of the state have bore the brunt of the rain fury at a maximum level in the aftermath of Nilam cyclone combined with vigorous north-east monsoons. Hundreds of villages and towns in coastal districts remained marooned even as they get a respite from rain. However, north coastal districts Srikakulam, Vizayanagram and Visakhapatnam received rainfall on the sixth day today.
