Relief operations underway in AP rain-hit areas as death toll mounts to 18; Death toll in Odisha flash flood rises to 6

In Andhra Pradesh, relief operations are underway on war footing in the rain-hit areas even as torrential rains continued to lash several parts especially coastal districts. The normal life was badly hit due to very heavy rains for the past four days under the influence of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal and North East monsoon.

Thousands of villages and residential colonies in dozens of towns and cities were marooned. Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed the district authorities to extend all assistance to the people in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the death toll rose to 18 due to rain related incidents and two more persons feared dead as they washed away in flood water. Over 67 thousand people have been evacuated from low laying areas and shifted to 135 relief camps set up in various districts.
