In Andhra Pradesh, relief measures are underway in the coastal districts which were affected due to heavy rain in the past five days. Hundreds of villages in Krishna, Nellore, Visakhapatnam and East and West Godavari districts are still water logged even after respite from rain. Chief Minister K Rosaiah has undertaken an aerial survey today in East and West Godavari and Krishna, the worst affected districts due to heavy rain. While the rain claimed 26 lives so far, about 50 thousand people are taking shelter in over 110 relief camps. Medical camps have been set up at 34 places to provide precautionary health care. Standing crops especially paddy in over 6 lakh acres were inundated. Meanwhile, a high alert was sounded in all the coastal districts as the low pressure in the Andaman Sea began gaining strength. According to the Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam, the low pressure was changed into Depression and centred 1400 kms off coast. It might convert into a cyclonic storm and likely to move towards the north coastal Andhra Pradesh before making a landfall. The Army, Air Force and the Navy besides the Disaster Management Response Force have been kept on standby.
