The minimum relief amount payable to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes victims of various kinds of atrocities has been increased by 150 per cent.

According to the amendment the existing rates between Rs 20,000 to Rs 2,50,000 of relief to the victims of atrocity, their family members and dependents have been increased between Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh.

This is the first time that the scale of relief has been revised since the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Rules, was first laid down in 1995
