Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has said the relevant draft bill to hold Local Government (LG) elections will be presented in parliament next week. Addressing a function in Colombo today, Mr. Sirisena noted that the holding of LG elections was delayed due to irregularities in the previous draft bill.<br/><br/> He said that the government is under criticism politically and the media is claiming that the government is not holding the LG elections. Opposition MPs led by former President Mahinda Rajapaske has alleged that government is delaying the elections because of the fear to lose. <br/><br/>Prime minister Ranil Wickremsinghe in a meeting with political parties this week stated that LG elections will be held by end of this year. The elections were delayed because of delimitation issues of seats for which the current government had appointed a fresh committee.
