African Union peacekeepers in the Somali capital Mogadishu say they need reinforcements immediately in order to consolidate recent gains. A spokesman said they had worked frantically over the past few days to establish new bases across the city in the wake of a recent upsurge in fierce fighting. Some seven thousand Ugandan and Burundian soldiers have set up seven new bases, following new clashes during Ramadan.
