Sports Minister M S Gill today insisted that the new regulations limiting the tenures of office-bearers of National Sports Federations will have no impact on the Commonwealth Games later this year. Talking to reporters outside Parliament, he said, all office bearers of sports bodies continue their work and as and when future elections come, these regulations will apply. Elections to sports bodies are mainly due in 2012, 2013 and 2014. After the Sports Ministry came out with an order limiting the office terms of sports administrators, many including IOA chief Suresh Kalmadi and Judo federation chief Jagdish Tytler, both Congress MPs, have criticised the move. Mr Gill , however maintained that he has just restored the previous order issued by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1974-75. Defending his decisions, the Sports Minister said, he has studied IOC regulations and let's stick with what IOC has done to remain in tune with it.
