The TDP, AIADMK, Biju Janata Dal and Assam Gana Parishad have extended their support to the Women Reservation Bill which is scheduled to come up in the Rajya Sabha on the International Women's Day on Monday. Major parties like Congress, BJP and Left are already favouring the bill. However, RJD, SP and JDU continue to oppose it. Expressing commitment for early passage of the bill, Congress President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, described the Bill as one of the most important legislations. The main Opposition BJP says it will support the bill in its present form when it comes to Parliament. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Mrs. Shushma Swaraj is enthusiastic about the passage of the Bill. She said, the Bharatiya Janata Party will issue a three-line whip to ensure that all its MPs are present and vote in favour of the Bill. Supporting the Bill, CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta said that the party's stand on the bill remains the same.<br/><br/>RJD Chief Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav says there is no change in the party stand on the issue and demanded quota for scheduled castes and backward classes in the bill. Speaking on the same lines, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav said that the party will not allow the passage of the Bill. Rejecting the contentions of RJD and SP, Law Minister Veerappa Moily said that any reservation for backward and scheduled classes within the Bill can be introduced only if a similar reservation is brought in general. He also ruled out the charge of the Bill being an attempt to divide the Opposition which is united on price rise issue. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni expressed hope for a speedy passage of the Women's Reservation Bill. Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Ms Soni said that the Bill should not be much delayed as the government's stand is clear. Chairperson of National Commission for Women Girija Vyas described the move as an important step toward inclusion of women in decision making process. In a related development, a delegation of Women Congress MPs thanked Congress President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi for initiating the process for taking the Women Reservation Bill for discussion on 8th of this month.<br/><br/>
