Regional connectivity plan to promote affordable flying: Raju

Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju has said Regional connectivity scheme (RCS) is the cornerstone of the civil aviation policy and it will promote affordable flying and balanced regional growth. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi this afternoon, Mr Raju said, RCS will remain in operation for ten years and individual route contracts will be for three years. He said, passenger air fares from unserved and underserved airports will be capped at 2,500 rupees per hour of flying.<br/><br/> The Minister said there will be no landing, parking and Terminal Navigation Landing charges for RCS flights. Regional Connectivity Fund will be created for funding RCS through levy on certain flights and the states will contribute 20 per cent to to RCF. Under the scheme route networks will be encouraged to achieve economies of scale and optimal usage of aircraft.
