Reforms in legal education are necessary to meet the requirement of trade and industry: Moilly

The government plans to hold national consultation early next month to draw a road map for bringing radical reforms in legal education to meet global challenges. Speaking to media at a press conference in New Delhi today, the law Minister Mr. Veerappa Moily said that reforms in legal education are also necessary to meet the requirements of the trade and industry in the fast changing scenario.<br/><br/> He said that the role of law schools in social transformation specially with regard to disadvantaged sections of society for inclusive growth will also be another major highlight of the consultation.<br/><br/>The consultations will also re-evaluate the ethical standards to raise the level of service provided by the legal profession to the community. Replying to a question on the stand of the government on entry of foreign legal firms in the country, Mr Moily said the issue was pending before two High Courts and said the "best decision" will come.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent says that the national consultation to be held on the first and second of next month will be attended by supreme court and high court judges,Attorny General of India leading lawyers and faculity members of law unversities and institutions among others .
