Reddy convenes high level meeting to discuss oil adulteration

Petroleum minister Jaipal Reddy has convened a high level meeting to discuss the oil adulteration issue. Petroleum ministry has called this emergency meeting to chart out a course of action to root out the oil mafia. Despite the introduction of a series of technological and institutional measures, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is concerned over the growing menace of adulteration of petroleum products. The move from the centre came after in a gruesome incident Nashik additional district collector Yashwant Sonawane was burnt alive by the oil mafia in Manmad in Maharashtra. The officer went to conduct a raid on the local oil mafia for pilferage from kerosene tankers. AIR correspondent reports the Rangarajan Committee report had suggested introducing IT systems to monitor the movement of trucks carrying the kerosene and monitoring the fuel tanks.
