The Red Ribbon Express – the train dedicated to the awareness on HIV-AIDS today left for Faizabad district in east UP. During its two days’ stay in Nautanwa in Mahrajganj district, several villages adjacent to the bordering areas of Nepal were covered. The people were awakened through street plays and cultural programmes. Around 5000 people from different walks of life visited the exhibition displayed in four coaches of the train. Our Gorakhpur correspondent reports that around 180 resource persons and members of public were trained on HIV-AIDS. Our correspondent adds that the visit of the train in the bordering area of Nepal assumes significance because a large number of people transit through open borders everyday. The Chief Executive Officer of the train Ramesh Menon said that the train has already covered 10 stations including Varanasi, Allahabad, Mau and Deoria that are most vulnerable from the HIV point of view due to migratory population.
