Punjab has broken all previous wheat production and procurement records. Not only this but per hectare yield has also registered eight per cent increase this year. Total production of wheat has reached 163 lakh 34 thousand metric tonnes while earlier record was 159 lakh metric tonnes in 1999-2000. Till now more than 109 lakh 19 thousand metric tonnes wheat has been procured in the market. Procurement officials expect that 110 lakh metric tonnes of wheat will reach the market.
