A record number of 11.50 crore bank accounts have been opened under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, PMJDY, as on 17th January this year. Briefing media in New Delhi this evening, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, Guinness book of World Records have also recognized the achievements made under PMJDY. Mr Jaitely said, the scheme also provides the platform for Direct Benefits Transfer, DBT which in turn will help in plugging leakages in subsidies and provide savings to the Exchequer.
