Record 75% voting in 2nd phase of Chh'garh p[olls; last date for withdrawal of nominations in Delhi

The highest ever polling of 74.70 percent was recorded for 72 seats in the second phase of Chhattisgarh assembly elections. Voting for the same constituencies in 2008 assembly polls was 71.09 percent. Brisk balloting was reported from semi urban and rural areas. Briefing reporters in New Delhi last evening, Deputy Election Commissioner, R Balakrishnan said that polling was peaceful in all constituencies, except for two incidents of violence in Bemetara district in which a person was killed and 14 injured. 75.53 percent voting was recorded in the first phase of Assembly elections in the state.

Nomination papers of 900 candidates including those from Congress, BJP and AAP for Delhi Assembly elections have been found valid after scrutiny. Today is the last day for withdrawal of nominations. 1,110candidates had filed their nominations for the 70-member Assembly. The 900 candidates whose nominations have been accepted include 75 from AAP, 70 from Congress, 69 from BSP, 68 from BJP, 10 from CPI, nine from NCP and three from CPI(M). Besides, there are 296 independent candidates and 300 from other political parties. Delhi is going to the polls on 4th December and counting will be held on 8th.
