About 100 Model Adult Education Centres (AECs) will be set up in urban areas under corporate social responsibility programme extended by the Rural Electrification Corporation, REC, across the country.

Another 220 such center’s in rural areas will also be upgraded at a total cost of 10.5 crore rupees.

It is being done under Saakshar Bharat Programme. These education centers are spread in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh.

A Memorandum of Understanding to this effect was signed between the Rural Electrification Corporation and the National Literacy Mission Authority in New Delhi on Tuesday.
