Rebels in Libya continue rapid advance towards west

Backed by international air raids, rebels in Libya continued their rapid advance towards west, capturing towns abandoned by the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. Rebels have already recaptured the eastern coastal towns of Ras Lanuf, Brega, Uqayla and Bin Jawad, only a day after seizing control of Ajdabiya. The rebel claimed that they have reached near Nufaila, which is only 100 KM from the Gaddafi's stronghold of Sirte. ‘Explosions were heard in Sirte and the capital Tripoli last night. It is not clear what caused the blasts but State TV said, the two cities are being bombed by the western forces. Libyan officials says, the strike have killed 100 civilians but this cannot be independently confirmed. Meanwhile, the Benghazi based Transitional National Council has said that the rebels could begin exporting oil in less than a week. The Council Spokesman Ali Tarhouni said that the rebel-controlled oil fields are already producing more than one lakh barrels of crude per day. He said, the Gulf state of Qatar has agreed to help rebels export the oil.
