In Assam, re-polling has been proposed in three polling stations in Barkhala, Karimganj South and Algapur assembly constituencies in the state. Polling was held in these booths during the first phase of elections yesterday.The Chief Electoral Officer Hemanta Narzary today said that re-polling was necesisted due to malpractices and non- functioning of EVMs. Mr. Narzary told that electorates boycotted polls in 40 polling stations in four assembly constituencies. In one remote polling booth in Margherita assembly constituency only one person excercised his right of franchise.AIR correspondent reports that the poll campaigning is gaining momentum in 64 constituencies where polling will be held on April 11 during concluding phase of elections in the state. Congress Genearal secretary Rahul Gandhi, BJP star campaigners Shatrughan Sinha and Smita Irani, and AGP leaders, Prafulla Mahanta addressed a series of election rallies in support their party candidates today.
