RBI warns public against dubious offers, cheap funds

The Reserve Bank of India today advised the public not to fall prey to any ficticious offers, lottery winnings or cheap fund offers being made in the name of RBI. Reiterating that Foriegn Exchange Management Act, 1999 prohibits remittance in any form towards participation in lottery schemes, Executive Director of RBI, Mr H.R. Khan asked the people to file police complaints in case they received any such offers. The warning comes after a spate of ficticious offers of cheap funds in recent times from fraudsters. Although few local people and few Nigerians have been apprehended,the authorities maintain that it is difficult to nab the real king pins behind these fraudamantal practise. Regional Director of RBI, Mr Sandip Ghose asked people to exercise caution in case they are offered more return than expectyed on their investments. RBI has taken up various public awareness campaigns to prevent more people from getting duped. After initiating intensive print advertisements in collaboration with Minstry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, RBI now plans to launch camapigns on internet, TV and SMS alerts.
