The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cautioned the banks to be more careful while opening accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. The Executive Director of the RBI, Mr. P.Vijay Bhaskar told at a seminar in Kolkata on Friday that a single individual can open multiple accounts in different banks to get the benefit of one lakh rupees insurance coverage under the scheme.He said that the banks should have a single information sharing system by which this possible misuse can be stopped. Mr. Bhaskar also said that state level bankers committee should take steps to improve the credit-deposit ratio at North Eastern Region as it is much lower than the national average.
