Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has expressed hope that Reserve Bank will announce an easier monetary policy. He argued that the government has stuck to fiscal deficit commitments. Inflation has been under control, he said. Therefore, the movement to make the economy more competitive with more competitive interest rates should continue. The Finance Minister's comments came a day ahead of RBI's first bi-monthly monetary policy review for 2016-17. Mr. Jaitley was speaking at the CII annual function in New Delhi . The Minister said national pension scheme is providing attractive returns and people will have to look at these products. In the long run, deposit and lending rates should come down in order to make the economy more competitive.
