RBI today said that the overall growth of the Indian banking sector has slowed for the second consecutive year in 2012-13. A document titled 'Trends and progress of banking report 2012-13' that was released by RBI today said that both the balance sheet and the off-balance sheet operations of Indian banks slowed down in 2012-13 due to the slowdown in domestic economy and tepid global recovery.Meanwhile, RBI has asked banks to strengthen their loan recovery process. The apex bank has also expressed the need for a better legal system for accelerating the working of debt recovery tribunals and asset reconstruction companies.The report also said that while banking outlets were provided in almost all identified unbanked villages with a population of more than 2,000; the process of bringing in unbanked villages with a population of less than 2,000 was in progress during this year.
