The RBI Governor, Dr. Raghuram Rajan has said that ineffective distribution system is responsible for price hike of vegetables and agri products in the country. Addressing newsmen in Kolkata this evening, Dr. Rajan expressed concern over increasing prices of vegetables and stressed for improvement of distribution system to contain the price rise. He also expressed concern over high inflation and low growth rate. Referring to the Chit Fund scam in West Bengal, Dr. Rajan stressed the need for public awareness and financial literacy in rural areas to curb this menace. He said that financial inclusion programme to the weaker section, will also help to address the problem. Our Correspondent reports that the Central Board of Reserve Bank of India met in Kolkata today and discussed current economic situation, global and domestic challenges and policy responses on the matter.
