Reserve Bank Governor Raghuram Rajan has pitched for greater flexibility to Public Sector Banks (PSBs). Delivering the annual day lecture of Competition Commission of India in New Delhi today Rajan said that PSBs can become more competitive by distancing themselves from government influence.He said, privatization is not necessary to improve the competitiveness of the PSBs because there are well managed PSBs in India. He said there is a need for change in governance, management and operational flexibility.The Governor said that they are examining all ideas carefully like creating a company to hold government PSBs shares, increasing the length of Bank CEO tenures which will help PSBs to compete in the new environment.Referring to financial inclusion, Rajan said, the RBI will come out with new relaxation on Business Correspondents shortly.
