RBI forms committee for transparency in bank lending rates

The Reserve Bank of India has set up a working group to address the issue of lack of transparency in bank lending rates. This was disclosed by RBI Governor D Subbarao in Chennai yesterday. Addressing the platinum jubilee function of Indian Overseas Bank, he said the working group headed by the RBI Deputy Governor Anand Sinha will determine the principles that must govern proper, transparent and non-discriminatory pricing of credit. Dr Subbarao said, the working group is expected to submit its report by next month. Emphasizing that banks should not treat no-frills or zero-balance account as a nuisance, he said bankers should look at financial inclusion as an opportunity to expand business. He said, the RBI is sensitive to price rise and will continue to take steps to deal with the situation.
