RBI has extended the deadline for deployment of Aadhar-enabled devices that process card transactions using Aadhaar-based biometric authentication. In a notification issued from Mumbai yesterday, RBI said that the deadline is being extended to 30th June 2017 as the rate of deployment of acceptance infrastructure has slowed down owing to the mismatch between demand and supply of such Aadhaar-enabled devices.

However, RBI has added that banks may continue to make necessary arrangements, including changes as host-end, network level and device readiness. In September this year, RBI had asked banks to ensure that all new card acceptance infrastructure deployed with effect from 1st January, 2017 is enabled to process payment transactions using Aadhaar-based biometric authentication.
