Rare blue moon tonight

A blue moon will appear in the night sky tonight, which will be the second full moon this month. Our correspondent reports, when a 2nd full moon rises in a month, the occurrence is known as a blue moon as it happens rarely. The first full moon was visible on the 2nd of this month and now sky gazers can see it happening one more time tonight.

The moon will rise at 6:13 this evening and will reach its fully illuminated total phase at 7:28 PM. On rare occasions, the moon actually has a blue appearance, often caused by smoke from large-scale fires or excessive dust particles in the atmosphere. The next blue moon will occur only after three years on 31st of July, 2015. The blue moon event last time occurred in December 2009.
