Chairman of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council, Mr. C Rangarajan today proposed the inclusion of the Above Poverty Line, APL, families in the proposed Food Security Act.Speaking at the conference of state food secretaries in New Delhi, he said that providing 15 kg of foodgrains to the APL and 30 kg to the BPL families will ensure that everyone has access to some minimum amount of food. Mr. Rangarajan added that a total production of 50 milion tonnes of foodgrains in the country is required for such a scheme to materialize.
