Ramzan, the holy month of fasting for Muslims, begins today. The announcement was made by the Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri mosque Maulana Mufti Mukkaram Ahmed in New Delhi on Friday.

AIR correspondent reports that in Lucknow that Markazi Chand Committee–the apex body of confirmation for moon sight—has confirmed the sight of the moon of 1st Ramadhan on Friday.

The month-long fasting will culminate in the Id-ul-Fitr celebrations next month.
