The Supreme court today blamed both Yogaguru Ramdev and Delhi Police for the mid-night crackdown at Ramlila Maidan last year. The court said, it was Ramdev's legal and moral duty to leave the venue when asked for. It further observed that there was abuse of power by the Delhi Police and violation of fundamental rights of people. It said Police and the state could have avoided the violent incident.
The court awarded an adhoc compensation of 5 lakh rupees to the next of kin of Haryana resident Rajbala who suffered spinal injuries and died. It also awarded compensation of .50,000 rupees to all those who suffered grievous injuries and 25,000 to others injured that night.The court directed Baba Ramdev's trust to bear 25 percent cost of the compensation. 75 per cent of the compensation is to be borne by the Delhi Police.
