In Tamil Nadu, the two day strike by Rameswaram fishermen was called off today after state Fisheries officials gave assurance to make efforts for the release of 23 Tamil fishermen apprehended by Sri Lankan Navy. The state government authorities told AIR that the fishermen will resume their fishing activities by Saturday. The fishermen were on strike, urging the Centre and State governments to ensure the release of fishermen caught by Sri Lankan Navy last Sunday.
