The Union Rural Development Minister Mr. Jai Ram Ramesh has assured the Punjab Government of all assistance in tackling the problem of Uranium content in water. He said in Chandigarh that Punjab is the only state in the whole of the country facing this problem. He said the entire country will be covered under sanitation programme by 2022. The Minister said Sikkim is the first state which has got the status of a nirmal state and Kerala will be second such state by next year. He discussed drinking water facilities and sanitation programme with the representatives of Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
