Union minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan has announced setting up of a national consumer helpline for the northeast region. Talking to media persons in Shillong yesterday, Mr Paswan said one national consumer helpline will be set up at Guwahati in Assam for the benefits of the consumers of the region. <br/><br/>The minister said that so far 49 such helplines have been set up across the country which will ensure that consumers can file their complaints from anywhere including from mobile phones. <br/><br/>Mr Paswan has also called for initiating end to end computerization for addressing the reported leakages in the distribution of the rice and wheat under the National Food Security Act. The Minister further said that the last option to tackle the challenges will be the introduction of direct benefit transfer system where money will be deposited in the account of beneficiaries.
