Ram Chandra Poudel pulls out of PM election runoff in Nepal

Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel has pulled out of the Prime Ministerial election after 16 rounds of failed attempts to get elected.As soon as the parliament met on Wednesday evening, five hours behind schedule, Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba who proposed the name of Poudel for the post of Prime Minister withdrew his proposal stating that his party decided to withdraw its candidate to create a congenial atmosphere to begin afresh the process for electing a new Prime Minister in a bid to end the current political deadlock.Speaker Subhash Nemwang said the withdrawal of Ram Chabndra Poudel's candidature brought to an end more than five month long futile exercise to elect a new Prime Minister. He said a fresh process to elect the Prime Minister will begin after amending the parliamentary regulation on election procedure.AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that the Nepali Congress decided to withdraw its candidate before the 17th round of voting in parliament today following the decision of both the Unified CPN(Maoist) and the CPN(UML) not to vote for Nepali Congress candidate.Both the parties urged the Nepali Congress to pull out its candidate from the election to start afresh process of election process to form a new government.
