Rallies to mark 27th Bhopal gas tragedy anniversary

Today is the 27th anniversary of Bhopal gas leak tragedy. It was on the mid-night of 2nd and 3rd December of 1984 when the tragedy had struck claiming more than 3,000 human lives and maiming thousands of survivers for life. Rallies, demonstrations, seminars and exhibitions will be held by various organisations to mark the occasion.An all religions prayer meeting will be held at Bhopal's Barkhatulah Bhawan at 10.30. State Governor Ram Naresh Yadav will be among others present on the occasion. Several known government organisations will organise rallies, public meetings and torch processions against union carbide. The Central Government has sanctioned an additional compensation of Rs 740 crore for about 48,000 gas victims. Out of this, Rs 620 crore has been distributed to 39,000 gas victims.
