Rajya Sabha to take up Women's Reservation Bill on Monday

The Rajya Sabha will take up Women's Reservation Bill tomorrow. The Law and Justice Minister Mr. M Veerappa Moily would be moving the Bill for its consideration and passage. With TDP, DMK, AIADMK, Akali Dal and National Conference pledging support to the bill and divisions emerging in the opponents, the Bill seems to be set for a passage in the upper house as Congress, BJP and Left parties have already joined hands on the issue. The voice of the opponents has been dented with Bihar Chief Minister springing a surprise by suddenly turning a champion of the Bill.

On the eve of the consideration of the Bill, government sought to reach out to its opponents. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mr.P K Bansal has appealed to all political parties to support the long-pending measure unanimously and assuring them of talks on other ideas. Our correspondent reports that attempts to take up the Bill in the last about 13 years have been scuttled several times.
