Rajya Sabha takes up Payment of Wages Bill for consideration

The Rajya Sabha has taken up the Payment of Wages (Amendment) Bill, 2017 for consideration and passing. Initiating the discussion, Dr. Satyanarayan Jatia of the BJP welcomed the bill saying the measure will be good for labourers. He said it will help labourers to be a part of digitization.<br/><br/>Mr. Jatia said ESIC and Provident Fund are the two welfare tools for workers.<br/><br/>Madhusudan Mistry of the Congress said this is a most neglected legislation in its implementation. He suggested that the wages should go to the bank accounts of the work-force. Then only, the services of labourers will be on official records. <br/><br/>He also suggested timely payment of wages to the workers. Sanjay Seth of the Samajwadi Party wanted to know whether the government had held talks with the industry unions about the bill.<br/><br/>He suggested that industries should provide education to the children of the labourers.
