Rajya Sabha takes up discussion on working of Ministry of Railways

Rajya Sabha today took up the discussion on the working of the Ministry of Railways. Initiating the discussion, Sujeet Kumar of BJD lauded the government for increased budgetary allocation for capital expenditure in the Railway sector. He said it is the highest ever allocation which will help in improving the railways' infrastructure and enhance the security and safety of the passengers. He said rail accidents have significantly reduced in the recent years.<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">Echoing the same view, Ram Vichar Netam of BJP said, the numbers of rail accidents have decreased to 55 in the year 2019-20 as compared to 104 in 2016. Naranbhai Rathwa of Congress demanded to complete the railways' projects sanctioned during the previous UPA government. Participating in the discussion, P Wilson of DMK said, if Railways will privatize, it will adversely affect its income. Banda Prakash of TRS raised the issue of rail projects in Telengana. Manoj Jha of RJD questioned the government's claim with regard to growth in freight loading. Ramnath Thakur of JDU, Sanjay Singh of Aam Adami Party, Dushyant Gautam, BL Verma and Neeraj Shekhar of BJP, Vishambhar Prasad Nishad of Samajwadi Party, Rajmani Patel of Congress, K Ravindrakumar of TDP and others also spoke on the issue. The discussion is underway.</span><br />
