Rajya Sabha takes up Central Educational Institutions (Reservations in Teachers' Cadre) Bill-2019

The Rajya Sabha today took up the Central Educational Institutions (Reservations in Teachers' Cadre) Bill-2019 for consideration and passage. The bill seeks to provide for the reservation of posts in appointments by direct recruitment of persons belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and educationally backward classes and economically weaker sections to teachers cadre in Central Educational Institutions. <br />'' <br />'' The bill will replace the Ordinance promulgated in this regard. Initiating the discussion, P L Punia of Congress, while supporting the Bill, demanded the government to fill up the backlog vacancies. Prabhat Jha of BJP said adding 200-point quota roster system is path-breaking and will definitely benefit the people belonging to these categories. <br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Ram Gopal Yadav of SP demanded allocation of more funds for the education sector in the upcoming budget. Members of other political parties including CPI(M), JD(U), TMC and  AIADMK also participated in the discussion. The debate remained inconclusive.</span><br />
