Rajya Sabha takes up Appropriation, Finance bills for discussion

The Rajya Sabha is now discussing the Appropriation and Finance Bills, 2016. Initiating the discussion, V P Singh Badnore of the BJP accused the opposition of not allowing the passage of important bills including the Goods and Services Tax. <br/><br/>He commended the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister for their initiatives in attaining the GDP growth rate of 7.6 per cent in the country. <br/><br/>As a result, the fiscal deficit has come down to 3.5 per cent. Jairam Ramesh of the Congress said that his party will fully support the government in reducing the Non-Performing Assets of the banks and taking action against wilful defaulters. <br/><br/>Referring to liquor baron Vijay Mallya, Mr Ramesh asked the government to go whole hog against him. K C Tyagi of JD(U) criticised the government's economic policy, which he termed unproductive, and called for its review.
