Rajya Sabha today passed the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill, 2014 moved by the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Thawar Chand Gehlot, after a brief discussion. It was moved by the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment during Zero hour.<br/><br/>Dr Karan Singh of Congress said the Bill was long overdue and would honour India's commitment to the UN treaty on the subject. Satish Chandra Mishra of the BSP wanted the Bill to be known as the Rights of the Differently Abled Bill. Some members urged the job reservation to be increased to five percent. Later, the Bill was adopted by voice vote.<br/><br/>After passing the Rights of Persons With Disabilities Bill, 2014 following a brief discussion Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm. Immediately after the passage of the Bill, the Opposition members raised the issue of allegations against Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju involving a hydel project in his home state of Arunachal Pradesh. Chairman Hamid Ansari preferred question hour to be taken up but in vain.
