Rajya Sabha today expressed profound sorrow on the passing away of eminent litterateur and social activist Mahasweta Devi yesterday. <br/><br/>Making a reference, Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari observed that the country has lost a most respected writer, who will always be remembered for her popular stories that sought to raise awareness about social injustice, poverty and the plight of the marginal people in the country. Her demise is an irreparable loss to the literary world, he said. Later, members observed silence as a mark of respect to the memory of the departed soul.
