The Rajya Sabha has been adjourned for the day. Earlier the Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice in the post lunch session today following heated exchanges between opposition and treasury benches over the taking up of the Copyright (Amendment) Bill 2010. As the Human Resource Development Minister, Mr. Kapil Sibal rose to move the Bill for discussion and consideration, Mr. Shivanand Tiwari of the JD (U) and Mr. M. V. Mysoora Reddy of the TDP raised objections saying that the Minister cannot do so as there is a conflict of interests.
Quoting the rules of the House, Mr. Tiwari alleged that Mr. Sibal's son is the counsel for a private organisation engaged in the making of audio music cassettes which comes under the Copyright Act.
This led to strong protests from congress members.
Responding to the situation, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal said the development in the House is not in the good taste. He said it is not fair to level such charges against the Minister.
When the House reassembled, the situation was not different. Amidst noisy scenes the Deputy Chairman, Mr. K Rehman Khan adjourned the House for the day.
