Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2 PM over DDCA issue

The Rajya Sabha witnessed four adjournments today. The House was first adjourned during the zero hour when the Congress members surged forward from their seats demanding the dismissal of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over his alleged irregularities during his stint in the Delhi and District Cricket Association, DDCA. Mr. Jaitley promptly got up to urge the Chair to discuss the matter straightaway. But the Congress members continued their shouting. This led to the first adjournment of the House for 15 minutes. When it reassembled, the scene was no better and the House was adjourned for the second time for 15 minutes once again.

In between, Opposition members demanded a discussion on the Juvenile Justice Bill to forestall the fall out of the release of the Nirbhaya case accused. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi pointed out that the Bill was listed for discussion three times during this Session but the Opposition members did not allow it. He volunteered to get the Bill discussed today itself. But Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad suggested its postponement till tomorrow.

When the House reassembled after its second adjournment at noon, the Congress members again surged in the well shouting slogans against the Finance Minister. They said nothing short of Mr. Jaitley's resignation will satisfy them. Chairman Hamid Ansari's repeated pleas for order went in vain. He said it was very unfair on their part to thwart the Question Hour. Mr. Ansari adjourned the House amidst the uproar for half an hour. The House was adjourned till 12.30 and finally till 2 p.m. when the disorder did not subside.
