Rajya Sabha adjourned over printing of currency

The Rajya Sabha, which witnessed a series of adjournments on the issue of printing of two types of currency notes of 500 denominations, was adjourned finally for the day today amidst opposition slogans and counter slogans by treasury bench members. <br/><br/>The House witnessed seven adjournments on the issue as the agitating Congress members frequently trooped into the well of the House raising slogans. <br/><br/>There was no change in the situation when the House met at 2.30 PM after its 6th adjournment. As noisy scenes continued, Deputy Chairman P J Kurien adjourned the House.<br/><br/>Earlier, raising the issue during Zero Hour, Kabil Sibal of the Congress said it is one of the biggest scams of the country. He alleged that the government had resorted to demonetization so that new currency notes can be issued by RBI. <br/><br/>Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad wanted to know on what rule the member has raised the issue. He also wanted to know the source from which the member got the currency notes. Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said two types of 500 currency notes were issued to serve the purpose of the party and the government. <br/><br/>Sharad Yadav of JD(U) displayed the photocopy of the notes and said one note is big and the other is small. Leader of House and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley regretted that the country's currency is being discussed during Zero Hour. He said it is the misuse of Zero Hour. He alleged that Congress is raising Points of Order every day. <br/><br/>Deputy Chairman P J Kurien asked the opposition to give notices to discuss the issue. He said the matter should not have been raised under point of order. <br/><br/>Treasury bench members also countered the opposition slogans from their seats.
