Rajya Sabha has been adjourned for the day following continued pandemonium over TripleTalaq Bill. As soon as the House reassembled at 3 PM, Congress and other opposition parties again raised the issue of Bhima Koregaon group clashes.

Amid the noisy scene, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad tabled the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriages) Bill 2017. He said, even after passage of the Bill in Lok Sabha, the practice is continuing. Congress member Anand Sharma moved a notice stating that the bill be referred to a Select Committee of Rajya Sabha and he also proposed the names of committee members.

Leader of the House, Arun Jaitley objected to it saying the house is taken by surprise that a motion is suddenly moved and has not been submitted a day before as required under the rule. He said, the Bill should not be referred to the committee because when the practice of instantaneous talaq was declared unconstitutional, the judges used their extraordinary powers to suspend it for six months, which will expire on 22nd of next month.

The heated exchange of words between opposition and treasury benches continued for around an hour on the procedure of taking up the legislation and other rules of the House. As the noisy scene prevailed, Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien adjourned the House for the day.
