Rajya Sabha adjourned for the day following Opposition protests over several issues

<span style="color: #222222;">The Rajya Sabha today witnessed a protest by the opposition members over various issues including alleged misuse of the Enforcement Directorate and price rise. When the House met after the second adjournment at 2 PM, members from Congress, Shiv Sena, TMC, AAP, DMK, Left, and others again trooped into the well, raising slogans against the government. Leader of the House Piyush Goyal accused the opposition of running away from the discussion on price rise.<br />''<br />'' He said the government has taken a number of steps to contain inflation. Leader of the Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of remarks made by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Mr. Goyal on Congress President Sonia Gandhi last week in the House. Amidst opposition members' protest, the House passed the Weapon of Mass Destruction and their Delivery Systems (Prohibition of Unlawful Activities) Amendment Bill 2022 and the Indian Antarctic Bill, 2022 by a voice vote. After the passage of the Bills, the House was adjourned for the day.  <br />''<br />''Earlier, the House witnessed two adjournments following the protest by the opposition parties. When the House met after the first adjournment at 12 Noon, members from Congress, Shiv Sena, TMC and others again trooped into the well, raising slogans against the government. DMK, AAP, Left, NCP and others were also on their feet. Amid continuous uproar, Leader of the House Piyush Goyal said, very important legislations are to be taken up urging the agitating members to allow the House to function. He said, the government is ready for discussion on the price rise tomorrow. On the alleged misuse of ED, Mr. Goyal said, the government does not interfere in the work of investigating agencies and they are doing their jobs. He added that action will be taken against those who break the law.<br />''<br />''Reacting to it, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge accused the government of undermining democracy and trying to destabilize the elected government. He raised the issue of price rise, Gujarat hooch tragedy and alleged misuse of a central agency. Amid sloganeering, the Presiding Officer tried to run the Question House but in vain. Later, he adjourned the House till 2 PM.<br />''<br />''In the morning, when the House met for the day, members from Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP trooped into the well, displaying placards over the arrest of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut. Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said, this issue has nothing to do with the business of the House and urged the members to go back to their seats. As they continued their protest, the House was adjourned till 12 Noon minutes after it met for the day.</span>
