Rajya Sabha adjourned for day over Sadhvi Jyoti's remark

Opposition members today stalled the proceedings in the Rajya Sabha demanding the resignation of Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti for her derogatory remarks against the opposition. The House witnessed continuous uproar before being finally adjourned for the day. As soon as the House met for the day, Congress and Samajwadi Party members kept on trooping into the well in support of their demand.

The agitating members did not pay heed to the repeated appeals for order by Deputy Chairman P J Kurien. He reminded them that they were shouting slogans against a lady minister. The opposition members did not even allow External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to make a statement on the foreign visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Amidst the din, Mrs Swaraj refused to lay her statement on the table saying it is an important document and must be read.
