The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day today after witnessing unprecedented uproar by the Congress over the Lalit Modi controversy. The House witnessed heated arguments and counter arguments between the treasury and opposition benches. <br/><br/>As soon as the House met at 2 PM Congress members trooped into the well shouting slogans against the government even as Deputy Chairman Prof. P J Kurien called for taking up the Goods and Services Tax bill for discussion. Majority of the agitating members were engaged in shouting slogans at the top of their voices. <br/><br/>Some others were displaying placards as a mark of protest to the remarks made by top industrialists against the on-going disruptions in Parliament. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the nation is watching the unruly behaviour of the opposition in the well of the House. He termed it as hooliganism. As the pandemonium continued, Prof. Kurien adjourned the House for the day observing that he totally disapproves the opposition behaviour. <br/><br/>Earlier in the day, several members including Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed concern over interference of industrialists on the Parliamentary functioning. They also criticised media for highlighting Members of Parliament in a bad light. They expressed their anguish saying such things are lowering the dignity of Parliament. The House was subjected to three adjournments today, amidst uproar and unruly scenes.
